The Anatolian and Hittite trade corridors and the Assyrian merchant colonies at Kultepe ran written commercial contracts between distant parties. This was early infrastructure for intermediated trade.
Seljuk period, 11th to 13th century
The caravanserai network
The Seljuk caravanserai network guaranteed merchants safe passage, standardised transaction terms and provided insurance against loss. It was the institutionalisation of trust across the plateau.
Ottoman period
The guild system
The Ottoman guild system codified quality standards, apprenticeship and dispute resolution. The Turkic commercial networks from the Balkans to Central Asia completed it.
